Variant

They were once human; at least they think they were. It’s hard to be sure with no conscious memory of your past to rely on. Their dreams haunt them, they seem to indicate there was a past. But now…now they are little more than bestial. Vengeance, bitterness and anger are what drive them now. The most violent of them are on a mission to rain hell down upon the heads of those who made them this way; others want only peace and quiet, maybe a little love, after years of cold, calculating combat. Funny how just a tweak of ones DNA can make such different creatures, just one little variance in that little chain of creation. So different, yet they are all, VARIANT. Intended for mature audiences.

Beginnings, Variant 1
Warning: This book is not suitable for sensitive readers. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Black Ops Lieutenant Maddox Larsen is missing. Not only is he missing, his entire team is missing. Their reality has been yanked from beneath them, replaced with a sadistic, twisted doctor eager to find just what the limitations of a soldier’s body and mind are. Unfortunately, Maddox and his men are not alone, there are others like them locked in this nightmarish facility. They barely survive torture, abuse, and drug induced changes of their DNA. Their needs have become simple: Food, Fight, Fornicate. Maddox exceeds all expectations and becomes the model by which all other males in the facility are measured. These males are no longer men, or even human for that matter. They are Variant. But now they’re free, and they're angry. Their target? Those who made them what they are today.
Nina struggled most of her adult life just to survive. She made the fateful decision to marry her high school sweetheart right after graduation — now she’s his favorite punching bag. He interrupts her when she finally seizes a chance to run from him, and almost kills her. She loses consciousness, awakening to a nightmare worse than she ever imagined. She’s at the mercy of five predatory, aggressive males, all locked in a prison cell with her. Sold to a medical facility as a reward for their test subjects for good behavior, her hell has only just begun. Eventually the most volatile of them claims her, giving her a slight reprieve. But then he disappears, leaving her in the hands of all the others. He better hope he’s dead, because now she’s free and if she discovers he intentionally left her behind, her wrath will make the monster that created them seem like their best friend.
Warning: If you have any triggers at all, please do not buy this book. This book shows the violence and abuse required to turn highly trained soldiers into killing machines with no thought of right and wrong. This book shows plight of the women who are given to them as ‘rewards’ for good behavior. While the first few chapters are dark, this story becomes a tale of survival, revenge, and ultimately love, that will always eventually overcome all.
Valor, Variant 2
This book is a work of fiction — creative license has been taken. This book is not suitable for sensitive readers. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Valor survived betrayal, captivity, torture, and DNA manipulation along with his special ops team. Most of the males who survived this testing and restructuring have no memory of who they were beforehand. Valor, however, has repetitive nightmares that are always the same. A female running after him, calling out for him — only she’s calling him another male’s name. She’s desperate, begging for him to wait for her, come back for her, but he doesn’t know her and other than in his dreams has never even seen her. He can’t sleep, he can barely function, and he’s becoming a danger to all who depended on him. Then on the way home from a meeting with military brass, he sees her from the window of the vehicle they are traveling in. He jumps from the vehicle and pursues her, snatching both her and her daughter from a very public grocery store parking lot, and takes them back to Alliance with him.
Becky has struggled for five years to scrape out a life for herself and her daughter. She lost her husband — a special forces soldier — before she ever gave birth to her baby. The military refuses to give her any information at all about the incident that took his life, stating only that he was at first missing in action, then confirmed dead while carrying out a critical mission. Angry and resentful, blaming the military for the death of her beloved husband, she refuses any benefits that she may be entitled to and moves across the country to Texas in an effort to start fresh. It’s hard most days, but she’s managed. Until the day she’s kidnapped from the parking lot of her local grocery store by a man who places a hood over her head and angrily growls commands at her as he shoves not only her, but her four-year-old daughter, repeatedly to the floorboard of the car.
Becky and Valor forged a connection years ago that even memory loss, and DNA manipulation cannot sever. Valor refuses to allow her to leave his side. He doesn’t know who she is, but he does know it is his responsibility to protect her. While at first terrified, Becky becomes furious when she realizes the lunatic who’s kidnapped her isn’t even supported by those associated with him, as they plead for her patience and offer apologies while promising to get her and her daughter home safely. But then she gets a look at him, and both their worlds come to a crashing halt. She knows this man. Her long-dead husband is the lunatic.

SIN, Variant 3

This book is a work of fiction - creative license has been taken. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Sin is a very misunderstood male — and he couldn’t care less. He lives each day with the guilt of freedom hanging heavily about his shoulders. He’s free, while the males who were held captive with him are not, they’re still missing. The outlet he chooses for his frustration, anger, and guilt, comes naturally to him. Women. Women are his outlet. And his job as security escort for anyone needing to leave Alliance for appointments in the public sector allows him to meet a lot of them. His very appearance, his mannerisms, and even the look in his eyes, coupled with the fact that he makes no secret of not wanting more than a few hours with any female, make him the object of almost every woman’s attention. Every female who sees him, thinks she’ll be the one to change his ways. So he lets them try. He never lies to them, though, or leads them to believe he wants any more than he actually does. Just a few hours, then he’s on to the next conquest, and he makes it perfectly clear from the moment he says hello. It’s not his fault some take it as a challenge.

Celia has no memory of her past. All she knows is the pain and torture of the facility she was held captive in. But now she’s free — more or less. The experimentation she endured has left her weak, and ill. Some days it’s even hard for her to take a deep breath, and she can’t exert herself without paying the consequences. Now her illness has progressed to the point that the doctors in Alliance feel they’ve done all they can, and they want her to see several specialists at a hospital. Celia’s terrified of all things medical. It was a doctor after all, who exposed her to the experiments that have made her sick. Lucky for her the male assigned to escort her to the hospital is one that has a way about him of calming her nerves and helping her through the tests she must endure.

Of all the females he’s ever met, the one that steals Sin’s attention is the one that is not susceptible to his charms. He’s not sure if he’s happy about that, or offended. Celia seems to have the uncanny ability to keep his darkness at bay, simply by being near him. The problem with that? Another male has already set his sights on her, and now that male is telling Sin that she’s dying. Together they devise a plan to save her life, but when all is said and done, will either Sin or Celia be left alive?

TWO, Variant 4

This book is a work of fiction - creative license has been taken. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Two has struggled all his life to fit in. His own father didn’t even want him, and walked out on him and his mother. As a result, he’s always believed that if a father isn’t willing to be front and center for his children, then he shouldn’t have them. Being a father is a gift that should be valued above all else. So, imagine his utter shock when he’s told that somewhere out there, he’s got a son. And that son is all alone in this world. The moment he hears the news, everyone and everything else falls to the wayside. He’s going to find his son — now — and nothing will stand in his way. Unfortunately, one of those things that gets left behind in the mad rush, is Shauna. And after being thrown aside this time, she swears it’s the last time.
Shauna is living in Alliance, working as an administrative assistant. She’s happy with the exception of one thing. The male she’s set her sights on, fell in love with at first sight, doesn’t seem to feel the same way she does. She was drawn to Two the first time she ever saw the big male. He’s not like the rest. He’s simple, and good, and… happy. Only now, she’s thinking she completely misread Two’s intentions. He’s stood her up before, this was his last chance. She’s done. She deserves someone who wants her as much as she wants them, and obviously Two doesn’t feel that way.
Two’s son is out there somewhere alone in a system that despite its good intentions isn’t always able to provide for the kids that have no choice but to depend on it for their very survival. But his life is about to change. There’s a male on the way, and this male will never allow him to be alone, or mistreated again. This male would give his life for him. And he just may have to do that. But Two might not have to fight alone, if he’d just open his eyes and take notice of those around him who are willing to stand with him.

Brutal, Variant 5

This book is a work of fiction - creative license has been taken. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Brutal is one of many elite soldiers subjected to DNA manipulation against their will. His DNA was mixed with that of wild predators, making him Variant. He’s now head of security at Alliance, the Variant community they all live in. He’s dominant, and prides himself on control. He shakes his head, laughing at the antics of others like him when they meet their one female. Now he’s met Ginny, it’s not so funny anymore. She continually holds him at arm’s length. Ignoring her insistence that he stays away, he invites himself to a party she’s attending, and things go well — really well. Only now, after having actually claimed her, she refuses to answer his calls and messages. Either she’s gone missing, or she’s just done with him. Unfortunately, he believes the latter. All of his control means nothing when he discovers she’s been taken.

Ginny has worked all her life to keep her heart buried deep inside, untouchable by any and all. It’s not that she doesn’t want love, in fact she craves it. But she’s afraid. Her mother walked out on her and her father, leaving him a shell of the man he once was. After seeing her father fade away, she’s determined it won’t happen to her. To fill her days, she spends more hours than she should caring for others as a nurse in a very large hospital. Which is how she got involved with the Variant, and ultimately Brutal. She was ‘all in’ where Brutal was concerned until he made it clear he wanted a forever relationship. But she doesn’t do forever relationships. She does a couple nights and ‘it’s been nice to know you’ relationships. But suddenly, her world is turned upside down, and unfortunately the only person who can save her is the one she’s all but blocked from her life. Will he even notice she’s missing?

The doctor who created the Variant people now has Ginny in his grip. He intends to use her to further his advantage in his attempts to manipulate the Variant — if she survives. Dr. Waller has no regard for anyone’s life. Time is crucial, she’s been labeled a reward to the squads he maintains control over. Will Brutal be able to find her? And if he does, will she still be alive, much less his?

Steel, Variant 6

This book is a work of fiction - creative license has been taken. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Since being given his freedom, Steel has spent every moment he’s not on mission with Lethal and his SOT team, taking care of everyone else in Alliance. It’s just who he is — steadfast, trustworthy, reliable. He’s seen some of his friends reconnect with family, and chose not to do the same. He’s even watched some begin to build new families, and others choose to walk away from Alliance and their own kind altogether. He’s understood all those choices, and never felt the need to make any changes in his own life. Until now. Now he’s found his mate, Josie. And she’s everything. Everything that soothes him. Everything that excites him. Everything that fills him with a need to be a better male.
But there’s a problem… General Ferriday has given his parents permission to visit Alliance despite Steel’s unwillingness to get to know them. As if that’s not enough to have to deal with, they’re bringing someone else with them. That someone else is Steel’s wife. A wife he has no memory of. A wife that has memories of him that can’t possibly be true. A wife that is determined to get him back into her arms and into her life. When added to a neurotic mother that he can’t believe is related to him at all, and a father that pleads for help that only he and his fellow Variant can give, it becomes an almost unbearable situation. One that forces Steel into a role he has no choice but to accept. If he doesn’t play this just right, make every step exactly where and when he should, lives could be lost. Lives that once meant a great deal to him, at least that’s what he’s told. And now just to make things more challenging, with the unexpected arrival of his mate, it seems he stands to lose her, too.
Could this situation possibly become any more complicated?

Respite, Variant 7

This book is a work of fiction - creative license has been taken. Please do not buy this book if you have triggers to sensitive situations.
Things don’t play out in Alliance quite the way they do in the rest of the world. That’s because most of the people in Alliance are not human — they’re Variant. A species of elite soldier forcibly created by the government in an effort to create the perfect warrior, the perfect weapon. Finally liberated, the Variant people live in their own community — Alliance — where they are free to be themselves. Which means their instincts are free to rule. Which instincts? Well, they’re predators, so it could be anything.
Law, who’s the face of the Variant, the liaison between all governmental agencies and the Variant people as a whole, is the epitome of reason, calm, control, and dependability. Except for the indisputable manipulation he’s gone to in order to bring his mate to Alliance and keep her there. It’s no wonder she’s mistrusting now, leaving Alliance and Law far behind the first chance she gets. She’s forgotten one thing, though… Law is not human. Now he’s thrown his carefully constructed reputation out the window and has become the hunter, succumbing to the addictive need of having his mate within reach. He will not stop until he finds her and brings her screaming all the way back to Alliance, if that’s what it takes.
And then there’s Vicious, cursed to live what remains of his life in a body slowly draining every ounce of his will to live. The scars covering 90% of his body continue to thicken and grow daily making it a painful struggle to even breathe. The only thing keeping him alive is the vague hope that a captive doctor might be able to reverse the damage done to his body. That and the gentle female he’s discovered is his mate. He wants her, needs her, but can’t even touch her, so he constantly pushes her away. She’s tired of feeling like an imposition to the large surly male. He wants to be alone, so that’s how she’ll leave him — alone. He’s about to learn the old adage of ‘be careful what you wish for…’.
Both Law and Vicious have drastic changes taking place in their personal lives, not the least of which is their sudden lack of a mate to stand by their sides. Now they’ve got to repair the damage not only to their relationships with their females, but also to their lives as a whole. Will they both be left standing alone when the smoke clears?
Their stories will play out in this 7th book about the Variant, but they’re not the only members of the Variant community going through changes. Both old and new favorites will face choices and changes that will affect their lives forever.
